Making Back To School Fun (+ A Funky Pigeon Personalised Gift Giveaway!)

It literally seems only days ago that I was on the countdown to the Summer holidays and it pains me to say that they are flying by far quicker than I had hoped. I really thought it would be a long drawn out process but it really hasn’t been. I’m actually quite sad that the Little Man will be back to school before I know it.

Whilst he is excited to be going into Year 1 and will be one of the big kids (let’s be honest, anything but Reception is known as a big kid in their eyes!), he isn’t overly keen on going back to the old routine. I’m hardly jumping for joy at the thought either. Every time I mention getting ready for back to school, he pulls that face – you know the kind, I am sure. I remember pulling the same face when I was little. He has been really good this Summer, (so far anyway, there is still time!), so I wanted to get him something that might help in getting him a little bit excited about going back to school and make it a little more fun for him.

Back to school preparation

The school uniform is sorted and we have to go new shoe shopping during the last week of the Summer holidays – I never like to get them too early, we all know it’s Sod’s Law if you buy them too early, their feet will go up a size before it’s time to start wearing them! The haircut will be done on that last weekend too, but in the meantime, we needed to get other essentials.

Last year the Little Man’s lunch box was used and abused and the only place it was good for by the end of July was the bin, so that’s one thing we needed to replace. The other thing that I wanted to get this year was a new school bag. Last year Little Man used the school’s branded book bag, but in all honesty, if I have to go another year of using that thing, I’m likely to end up throwing it in the ditch on the way to school. Whilst it’s cute, it’s far from practical. We needed something that was easy to carry and can get plenty in without it looking like he’s about to hit the deck when carrying it.

The idea is very cute and will go some way in making the whole back to school process a lot more fun.

The lunch bag we chose was equally as cute and is more than spacious enough. Little Man isn’t a big fan of school dinners, so that mundane task of preparing sandwiches the night before is ever present in our house. It can be tricky to find a lunch bag that is big enough for a lunch box, ice pack and drinks bottle, but this one more than ticks all of the boxes. And of course, there is no chance of it getting mixed up with someone else’s, because it has his name on!

Funky Pigeon also sent us a fabulous personalised pencil case, something that is already getting plenty of use and we aren’t even back to school yet. This Little Man is very much like his Mama and has always got a pen or a pencil in his hand, so when we opened a parcel to find a personalised Avengers notebook with plenty of blank pages, he was over the moon!

I honestly wouldn’t have thought to shop at Funky Pigeon for our back to school essentials, but I can honestly say, I’m so pleased we have these goodies to start a fresh term with. They are great quality and really very reasonably priced.
