How to tackle a cluttered bedroom, Bunk Beds, Storage and more.

A cluttered bedroom is every parent’s nightmare, but over the years of birthdays, Christmas, and everything else in between, toys and other items just take over.

Now you could buy another home and eventually fill that with lets say junk but for most of us moving home isn’t an option when we have outgrown our space or when our children have taken over.

One of the best options for removing clutter is to get creative with the space says Adeel ul-haq from bedroom company Bunk Beds.

Adeel says “We have more items now than we ever did, and because of this our rooms, our kids rooms and pretty much every room in our homes become cluttered. My advice would be to start getting creative with your furniture.”

“Instead of having a bed and a computer unit and a games unit and a tv and everything else in between, try and combine all of these furniture choices into one if possible. Gaming beds for example allow you to have a bed on top while a desk underneath, this opens up your room and gives you more room for activities.”

Opening up your space with bunk beds or gaming beds is a great space saver but it doesn’t stop there. You can get smart with other furniture choices such as Ottomans, underbed storage, cupboard storage and more.

However, you aren’t always going to be able to fix everything with furniture so you may want to consider hiring a storage unit.

Hiring a storage unit

A storage unit is often a good choice when you don’t want to move home but you have maxed out the space in your existing room. A small storage unit is more affordable than buying a home and not only do you get to declutter your child’s bedroom but you can also declutter the rest of your home too.

Scott Evans owner of Pink Storage Cardiff says “If you can’t fit more in your home but don’t want to upsize then a storage unit is a great and affordable choice. Storage units come in many sizes and can be adapted to your needs.”

“One tip I can give you is to shop around, many storage companies will have deals for those who are first time users, just be sure to check that there are no hidden costs when hiring a unit or no long term contracts as your needs can change over time.”

Declutter to keep your space clean

All the storage space in the world won’t make much of a difference if you aren’t able to keep your space clean. A cluttered bedroom often looks messy even when it’s not dirty, so my advice would be to keep the clutter down.

You can do this by using a method that only allows your children to keep a few items out at a time, this way its much easier for you to keep a room clean.

You can do this by having 10 toys and then putting the rest in storage in other rooms in your home. You can get your children involved too as they can choose what toys to keep and what ones to recycle.

You can then rotate these toys in and out every few weeks, doing so will keep your kids excited with “new toys” and it will also keep you from losing your mind having to tidy up the clutter all the time.

When storing your kids’ toys in another room, you can use cardboard boxes or plastic containers—both work well to keep dust and debris off and help maintain a tidy, cluttered bedroom.
