The other day whilst scrolling through the usual everyday things on Facebook, I stumbled across a post link for a new blog. It was a blog that I hadn’t seen before and blogs that I haven’t seen before written by people that I know are all the more interesting.
The blog I’m talking about is written by an old school friend of mine and is called hairyfairyweymouth.com
My old school friend is called Karen Figgitt and she suffers from PCOS, also know as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I had no clue that Karen had this condition and so wanted to read more.
This post of mine isn’t to tell Karen’s story, as that is hers to tell. This is purely to help give her some well deserved publicity. So I won’t ramble on, I’ll just briefly explain what she’s doing and then send you over to where you can read all about it and find out how you can show your support.
One of the symptoms of PCOS, and largely embarrassing symptoms, is excessive body hair, including facial, so for the month of August, Karen is growing all of her hair, including facial and underarm, to promote awareness and to raise as much money as possible for Verity The Polycystic Ovaries Self Help Group.
I am in awe of Karen for doing this. She really is an inspiration and that is why I wanted to try and do my little bit to help.
If you are living with this condition, know someone that is, or just want to show your support, please hop over there now. Karen will really, really appreciate it.
