Blog Self–Assessment: Blog Highs and Lows of 2017

This is the first year that I have bothered to look back at my annual blog statistics as 2017 was the first full year that I blogged consistently. I am actually really pleased with my findings! I was tagged to do this post by Katie at Living Life Our Way. It was really interesting to read about her highs and lows, and so now let’s take a look at my blog self-assessment – my highs and lows of 2017.

Posts Published

This shocked me if I’m honest. I published a staggering 384 posts in 2017. Incredibly, that’s more than one a day for the whole year. I guess now I understand why I was so tired by the time I got to Christmas!

Top-performing Post

My best performing post, and it’s no surprise really, was Holiday Packing Tips For Kids. The reason this was so popular was that it came with a Trunki giveaway. This was my most successful giveaway to date and it just goes to show that giveaways are a fantastic way to gain extra traffic. I also got a lot of followers from this post that keep coming back, which is obviously great news.

My top performing post that wasn’t a giveaway was The 30 Day Music Challenge. This was a music challenge I stumbled across on Facebook. I never have the memory to keep returning each day to do it so I decided to place it in a blog post – two actually! It was a huge success!

Post That was Difficult to Write

The post that I found the hardest to write was For My Little Man As He Starts Big School. I was so very emotional at the time of writing this and the tears were pouring as I typed the words. Obviously, it has all worked out for the best and we are now settled into our new routine. It’s actually hard to believe it was any different. But at the time it felt like my whole world was falling apart.

Post I Hope Will Make A Difference

I am thankful that I already know that this post has made a difference. Over the last few months, I have received several messages from people who have read Living With Someone With Depression. People have got in touch to thank me for making them feel less alone and to tell me that just reading my words made them feel like there was a light at the end of the tunnel. This means more to me than anything, and it sounds like such a cliche, but if writing and sharing that post has made just a few people feel better, then it was all worth it, even though it was quite a hard one to write, emotionally.

Post That Struck a Chord

A post that seemed to strike a chord with a lot of my readers was Am I Less Of A Mum As A Mum To Just One? I always felt like it was just me that felt that didn’t fill the job spec when it comes to being Mum, but it seems I am far from alone! Many Mums who are parents to one child, feel the very same way that I do, which is reassuring. After reading many comments, we did come to the conclusion, that of course we are no less of a Mum, we are every bit the same as those with several children.

Post That Fell Flat On Its Face

I think this category is a little on the harsh side! I’d like to think that none of my posts fell flat on their face, but of course, there will always be some that don’t do quite as well as others! But this is the perfect way to show it some love. Go take a look at Growing Trees With Children. I stopped promoting my posts on social media over Christmas and I believe this is why this post took a hit! Let’s change that now!

Surprise of the Year

I can’t believe how well the blog has taken off. I know I should have more faith in myself but sometimes I have to pinch myself when I realise how well this little corner of the internet is doing.

I can’t finish this post either without mentioning the fabulous success of the Triumphant Tales linky. It was a blogging goal of mine last year and a dream to create and run a linky and with the help of the lovely Lianne at Mrs Mummy Harris, together we made it happen. Triumphant Tales will be a year old in March and we are so pleased that it’s been so successful.

If you have never taken part, but would like to, we open on Tuesdays at 6 am and run through until midnight on Thursday. You can find more about it on the linky info page here.

I thank every single one of you who have clicked on a link in the last twelve months. Without you, I wouldn’t have the motivation to keep coming back each day to produce more and more content!

Here’s to an even more successful 2018 – onwards and upwards!
