I LOVE monkeys. For as long as I can remember, I have absolutely adored them. Whenever I go to a zoo or a monkey sanctuary, I could literally sit there for hours watching them. They completely fascinate me. I don’t know exactly what it is, whether it’s because they are so human like, or the way they play and swing around from branch to branch. They just captivate me, completely.
When we were on holiday recently in the Isle of Wight, we had the opportunity to visit the Monkey Haven. Of course, I jumped at this opportunity. What better way to spend a morning than in the company of my favourite little primate friends.
The Monkey Haven is a home for rescued animals and they can be found in Newport, near the centre of the island.
Many people are dubious about visiting animals in captivity, and this is understandable. But these monkeys have a great life. They have loads of space and as they are rescued from a life previously that was most likely awful, this really is a sanctuary for them.
There are many different types of monkeys from lemurs to gibbons and there are so many personalities within in the park. We had such a lovely morning wandering around between them all and listening to the talks that the staff give you on their history and the stories about the familes of monkeys.
There is lots to do for the kids too. With a nice little trail for them to do, a lovely play area and a gift shop that even I was tempted by! The coffee shop is also a great area to go and relax in after you’ve finished your visit, or even if you want a rest before going to take a second look around.
I really can see why the Monkey Haven are an Awards For Excellence winner. What a lovely place.
If you are visiting the Isle of Wight anytime soon, I really recommend you take time out to visit this fantastic little haven. I will definitely be going back next time we holiday there. Which won’t be long. I miss it already.

I do love monkeys and when we visited Sri Lanka last year, they were everywhere – we almost became a bit blase about them! But the Monkey Haven looks fab. If we’re ever on the Isle of Wight we’ll definitely visit it. #TriumphantTales

It looks great there. We live reasonaly near to Monkey World in Dorset, and that is fab. We go there at least once a year. I love places that rescue animals.

Ben is obsessed with Monkeys and always has been since a newborn. Whenever we go to a zoo that has a monkey they’re always the animals he enjoys to see more. We even considered a trip to Cornwall just to visit Monkey World as it had a TV show he used to love watching! If we ever go to Isle of Wight I’ll be sure to check this place out.

I love monkeys too – I love their cheeky little personalities. I’m not a fan of keeping animals in captivity but as this is a rescue sanctuary and these little guys probably wouldn’t survive in the wild, then they are actually doing a good job.

Yeah I am one of those usually dubious types but if they have lots of space and natural habitat I don’t mind so much. As you say though they are rescued so they’re probably a lot happier there!
