It may come as a surprise to you, but India is the second most populated country in the world with approximately 1.2 billion citizens! That’s a whole lot of people! The country has an incredible history that captivates people from all over the world and because of this, India is a steadily growing tourist destination. Foreign visitors and their own citizens flock to India’s most popular landmarks every year. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at three must-see things to do in India.
The Beaches of Goa
One of the most visited spots in India is Goa. It takes in approximately 12 per cent of the country’s total tourist revenue. The most popular spots have to be the beaches, especially the ones in the North. They draw the most tourists and even the southern beaches are becoming increasingly well known.
Elephanta Caves, Elephanta Island, Mumbai
The Elephanta Caves are located six miles from Mumbai. They are a group of five Hindu caves and two Buddhist caves that contain intricately carved stone sculptures. The caves can be reached by a one-hour boat ride from Gateway of India. The Elephanta Caves are a Unesco World Heritage Site that was created between AD 450 and 750. You only have to search online to read the rave reviews that the caves have. “Not to be missed” and “awesome place” to name but a few.
The Taj Mahal, Agra
You simply cannot visit India and not have your photograph taken in front of the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal has almost 4 million tourists visit every year making it the most visited attraction in the country. It was built between 1632-1653 in honour of Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of the Mogul Emporer Shah Jahan. Unsurprisingly, the Taj Mahal is often listed as one of the Wonders of the World.
With so much to see and do, you could be forgiven for not knowing where to start when planning your trip to India. This is why it’s worth considering booking on an organised tour. Jules Verne are winners of many travel awards with knowledgeable local guides and expertly planned trips and travelling with them could take your trip to India from brilliant to phenomenal.
However you choose to see India whether it’s on your own, or with an inspiring tour, it is safe to say that you will be in for the experience of a lifetime just by going there. With tremendous culture and history, India is certainly one to add to the bucket list.
