How Essential Is Jewellery Insurance For Your Engagement And Wedding Rings?

If you own an expensive ring, such as an engagement ring, which often costs thousands of pounds or dollars, then you are at risk of losing a lot of money if you lose the ring. Since robberies happen on a daily basis, you are also at risk of losing your ring through theft. Losing so much money can be depressing and a cash replacement would further incur a lot of money. The alternative option that people can opt for is jewellery insurance, which offers coverage for their expensive rings in case of loss or when it was stolen from them.

While some people have already signed up for jewellery insurance to protect their rings, some people are a little sceptical when it comes to buying such a policy. There are many questions that arise amongst those who are interested in this type of specialized insurance, and when these questions are not answered appropriately, they may not buy such a policy and only regret their decision when they need to replace a stolen piece of jewellery.

The Statistics

Wedding Bee recently launched a poll on their website to see how many people are actually taking out jewellery insurance on their engagement ring, wedding ring or other types of rings they possess. The results were quite impressive. A total of 236 people participated in the poll.

  • 67% of the participants had an active insurance policy on their rings and thought that the insurance was definitely a necessity.
  • 1% of the participants had an active insurance policy but did not find much use for it.
  • 22% of the participants did not have any active insurance policy for their rings but were interested in taking out jewellery insurance.
  • 105 of participants did not have an active insurance policy and thought that it would simply waste their money.

Why You Need Jewellery Insurance

As you can see from the statistics, the majority of the participants that voted in the poll already had jewellery insurance taken out to protect their rings against theft and loss. This means that the service definitely has a lot of value to add to your collection of jewellery by ensuring your precious items are protected. There are some people that thought this insurance is a waste of money. But it is very likely that these particular individuals have not yet lost any expensive pieces of jewellery or they do not own jewellery that is expensive enough to consider gaining coverage for.

Jewellery insurance is essential in today’s life, with the high crime rates throughout the entire world. Apart from having an expensive piece of jewellery stolen, it is also quite easy to lose a ring while performing day-to-day tasks. Being covered against these scenarios are essential. Especially if you cannot replace such a piece of jewellery without having to take out additional loans or spending all of your savings.

Conclusion

While there are many people that tend to think insurance for their jewellery seems to be a waste of money, it is important to note that once jewellery is lost or stolen, the decision to not take out such a policy may be regretted. Jewellery insurance has many benefits that people should consider. Especially if they own expensive jewellery that they cannot afford to replace in case it was stolen or lost.

After suffering a stroke and having my wedding ring removed from my affected hand while in hospital, I thought my ring had been lost, I was distraught, luckily it turned up and although I now have to wear it on my right hand, at least I still have it

I’m so sorry to hear that and pleased you found it. I can understand how upsetting that would be. Mine means everyhting to me.

Interesting topic. I think it’s pretty hard to actually loose the ring if it fits right. And you probably won’t take it off unless your at home, right? Did you hear about any cases where someone got an insurance, lost the ring and got it fully covered by the insurance company?
