Dull, dry, tired looking, oily or just plain awful. The condition of our skin is something so many of us battle with every day, and it’s a constant battle that we’re always losing. So, why suffer with it any longer? This new year why not take the opportunity to get to grips with a new skincare routine and get the glowing, fresh-faced complexion you’ve always wanted – deserved!

It’s true that there are lots of lotions and BB creams out there, (wondering what is a BB cream? Click the link to find out more) but before you use any expensive creams you need to have your basic skincare routine sorted. If you have spots, whether you have sensitive skin or lighter or darker skin tones, you may be less than confident in front of other people. Dark spots can affect all skin types so if this is something you have concerns about, be sure to take a look at Dark Spot Diminisher.

Need some other tips? Unsure of where to start? Read on for more advice.

Know your skin type

There are 5 skin types. And knowing what yours is can help you make the right choices when it comes to your skincare routine and the products you use.

  • Dry skin. Flaky and rough
  • Oily skin: visible pores, visibly greasy and shiny
  • Combination skin: dry areas and oily areas
  • Sensitive skin: skin that burns, feels sore or stings after using certain products
  • Normal skin: skin that is balanced, usually clear and is not sensitive

Cleanse

Cleansing your skin is the best place to start when it comes to a good skincare routine. It rids your skin of dirt, oil, impurities and old makeup that might clog your pores and make your skin look dull. You need to cleanse in the morning and in the evening too! A good cleanser not only cleanses your skin but also helps your moisturiser to work effectively and preps your skin for the following stages.

Tone

Next, you need to use a toner on your skin. Some people skip this step and it is personal preference, however, if you have problem skin then use a toner with ingredients such as witch Hazel to help tighten your pores or chamomile to help soothe your easily irritated skin then it’s worth adding it to your routine.

Moisturise

If you want your skin to feel gorgeously supple and plump then you need to finish off your skincare routine with a perfectly indulgent moisturiser. A good moisturiser will stop your skin from losing moisture throughout the day while a bad one will leave your skin feeling tight and awfully uncomfortable. Ingredients like vitamin E, provitamin B5 and glycerin are ingredients you need to look out for in a good moisturiser.

The extra bits:

Exfoliating

Exfoliating is the best way to rid your skin of all those dead skin cells and reveal the gorgeous, glowing skin underneath. If you have oily skin, don’t be afraid to exfoliate more than once a week. For those with sensitive skin, start with once a week and see how well your skin reacts. Try an exfoliating coffee face scrub to leave skin soft and revitalised.

Your Hairline

When you exfoliate don’t forget to work in the hairline, jawline, neck and even décolletage as makeup and products tend to build up there too!
