In a recent post, I talked about how your relationship changes, quite considerably after having children. It’s unsurprising to those of us who have been there and done it but it can be quite overwhelming for new parents not expecting the drastic shift. It’s so important to remember who you were before children turned your world topsy turvy and so to follow on from this, I give you – date night ideas for busy parents.
Being a Mum and a Dad takes up a ridiculous amount of time. Some days you will get to the evening and realise all you need to do is change from one pair of pyjamas to the other. Some of you may be reading this thinking ‘how am I meant to find time to go out?!’. And sure, it can feel like that. But in time, you will adapt. Take that offer of a babysitter or if there is no offer, ask anyway. It’s so important to have time together as a couple and go on that date night.
It’s not just new parents that might need this inspiration. Parents of older kids can find themselves stuck in the old routine as well. I hope all of you will find something here that you can use.
I asked some of my fellow bloggers for their tips for a top date night with their other half. Take a look at what they said.

Beth from twinderelmo.co.uk – Grab a meal deal and a bottle of wine from the supermarket and download a good film. Simple, easy and no babysitter required!
Jemma from mayflowerblogs.com – ssuming getting a babysitter isn’t an option, grab a takeaway and have a game of scrabble!
Victoria from lyliarose.com – f you can get a babysitter for a couple of hours then a trampoline park is great fun! Then grab a takeaway on the way home!
Jodie from maidenheadmum.co.uk – I think a ‘date day’ or ‘date afternoon’ can be much easier, especially if you can rope grandparents in to help, or can do a ‘playdate’ with friends. We like to nip into London and look around an exhibition or something else cool and then go for food or drinks after. That way you get more of a break and can switch off from all the details of family life.
Alice from livingwithajude.co.uk – Dinner out and a trip to the cinema is always lovely. Or we went for afternoon tea a while ago and it was so much fun! Wander around without any toddlers hanging off you or whinging, tons of cake and tea…what’s not to love!?
Nikki from yorkshirewonders.co.uk – I like the look of these ‘Escape Rooms’ that have popped up. Think The Crystal Maze meets the Adventure Game. I would love to do one – think it would be great fun to do together. Then maybe a romantic dinner afterwards!
Vikki from familytravelwithellie.com – For me it would be a night at a comedy show – being able to relax and laugh together is such a tonic. Followed by a meal in a quiet restaurant and a bottle of wine – bliss
Amy from thesmallestofthings.com – Find a box set you are both interested in and set aside an evening a week where you watch it together
Lianne from mrsmummyharris.co.uk – Wine and beer festivals. Get a babysitter for the daytime and go out and feel 20 again!!
Lisa from mummygummie.com – If you can get a babysitter for the daytime going out to a bottomless prosecco brunch is always fun!
Personally, we love a bite to eat followed by a trip to the cinema. It may be a bit of a cliche but it’a what we always used to do before the Little Man came along. We don’t get to do it as often as we would like but when we do, it almost feels like we are dating again. And we all know how that feels.
No one is saying you have to go every week or even every month. Just try and go as often as you can. You’ll be surprised how refreshing it is and how much good it does you both.
Do you have any other date night suggestions? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear them.
