We are living in strange times right now, and whether you are in isolation on your own or you are coping with lockdown and homeschooling your kids, you probably need a bit of cheering up. It’s important to have some fun as numerous studies have shown that fun will help your relationships and your health, which lowers stress, boosts intelligence, and the capacity to learn. So what can you do to keep yourself happy and cheer yourself up during lockdown?
Take long baths
For some reason, having a bath in the middle of the day is far more fun than at any other time. While you’re at home, make the most of it and take baths with plenty of bubbles and bath salts. Light some candles, put some music on and just have a lovely time.
Stay connected with others
It is hugely important at this time to stay connected to other people. Whether you feel like it or not, you must make sure you have a conversation with someone else from a different household each day. It can be very easy to forget this, and all of a sudden you realize it’s been two weeks and you haven’t spoken to anyone, and you feel miserable.
Treat Yourself
You deserve to treat yourself, so there is nothing wrong with indulging in a little online shopping. Treat yourself to a personalised photo phone case so that you can have a look at your favourite people every time you look at your phone or have a look at what you’ve got in your wish lists and buy yourself a present.
Go outside
Make sure you get outside at least once a day. It’s important to get fresh air and spend time with nature. Even if you don’t feel cooped up inside and are quite happy, you still need to get out at least once a day. Go for a walk, sit in your garden, do some gardening, whatever it is, fresh air is so good for you and you need it to stay happy and cheery.
Do one puzzle a day
Keep your brain active and away from thoughts of the virus and lockdown by completing a daily puzzle. Think Sudoko, Logic Puzzles, and Brain Teasers – all of which you can do on apps or get in puzzle books. Puzzles are not only fun and good use of time, but when you complete them, they make you feel accomplished and happy that you have finished something. Especially at the moment, when it’s easy to feel deflated by most things, at least it’s something you can feel satisfied with.
Always list three good things
One good thing to get into doing every night before you go to bed is to write down three good things that have happened that day. Even if you feel like you have had the worst day, there will be positives in there, such as a nice lunch, a long hot bath, or a lesson learned from something going wrong. Try doing this every night for a couple of weeks, and you’ll soon start to notice how much happier you feel, and you’ll probably have more than three things to put on the list.
