This blog has been a huge part of my life now for the last seven years. It’s insane when I think about it. I started out like many ‘mummy bloggers’ do (even though I hate that phrase — we are so much more than that), but over the last twelve to eighteen months, I have felt myself feeling a little detached from it. What can I say? Life has been really busy and so recently, as we have started a new year, I have been re-evaluating blogging and have been thinking hard about where it fits into my life.
I used to share a lot about my life and documented my little boy growing up at various stages of his life and last year this reduced dramatically. I didn’t even do a seventh birthday post for him last year, which I actually feel really guilty about. But last year was so busy for me. I’ll explain why,
Blogging took a backseat
At the start of the year, my husband got made redundant and so our main focus was finding him a job, which thankfully we did. I then entered a new phase of my life as I started a new job myself. I took a giant leap of faith and said yes to a job offer I still to this day can’t believe I got. I work as a Content and Influencer Executive for a new (now award winning) content marketing agency in Birmingham. I have the job title that people go to university to achieve yet I got mine through dedication and hard work here on this blog and on my social channels over the past seven years. I am so grateful that this was recognised and my self taught skills have been given the chance to flourish.
So, things have been busy. I have learned so much over the last twelve months in both work and play and by re-evaluating blogging here on my site I need to decide which way I am going to take it moving forward.
Reigniting the love for blogging
I think the important thing, is to reignite the love for it. I’m a lucky blogger. I’m one that has worked on it to the point that I make an income from it and in all honesty, that’s the reason it’s still going. The blog is still full of brilliant articles (I will say that, I write them!) but they are more informative rather than personal, and this is a huge step away from why it started in the first place. I want to take it back to the beginning, whilst continuing it in the successful way that it has been going over the last two years.
Blogging in 2020 and beyond
So where do we go from here? I have missed the blogging community. Back in the day when I had the time to run the Triumphant Tales linky (RIP), I checked in weekly with blogger friends and got to see what they were up to. So, prior to writing this, I have done my research and am thrilled to see that some of the linkys that I loved to join are still running. So that’s where I’m starting. You may even be reading this after finding it linked up – so thank you for taking the time to read my first personal post in some time.
I’m going to start writing about things that are important to me again. That means learning how to open up again, which may be hard, to begin with, but I’m prepared to give it a go.
I spend so much time writing content for other people and businesses these days that I feel like I’ve lost my own voice. That’s not unusual in my line of work. But I know it’s still in there somewhere, I just need to find it again and I think this is a great starting point. I can already feel it coming back as I sit and write this.
I’m looking forward to reigniting JakiJellz. Let’s take it back to the beginning. It’s a successful site, it just needs a bit more Jaki in it to balance out the Jellz… watch this space.
