Make Memories – Wednesday Wisdom 24

I had this quote planned for last week’s Wednesday Wisdom, but the school news kind of took over and we temporarily got distracted from our other exciting news of last week.

This year we didn’t think there was much chance we would get away on an overseas holiday. With one thing and another, we didn’t get anything booked and so we have been looking forward to a little break on the Isle Of Wight in June. I’m really looking forward to it as it’s somewhere we used to go when I was little, so there will be lots of memories revisited by me, and I can’t wait to take the Little Man to some of my favourite places. He’s already super excited about driving onto a ferry!

Despite having this to look forward to, I was still a little disappointed that we wouldn’t be walking through an airport pulling our luggage behind us and boarding a plane to get off the other end with the warmth embracing you.

Obviously, with the Little Man starting school in September, the dates we can go on holidays, are limited now and so I decided to start checking out when the half terms would be and try and find out just how much it would set us back. Well, I was surprised. Really surprised.

So after debating for a few days and then looking at the same webpage several times over, I ‘accidentally’ booked a week away for us in Portugal during the Autumn half term. Honestly. My finger slipped on the keyboard. It really wasn’t my fault!

I’ve had niggling doubts in my mind since I did it though. Can we really afford the two holidays this year? Should I be spending the money on something else? Or better still should I be saving it? And it wasn’t until I stumbled across this quote that I gave myself a bit of a talking to.

“Take holidays. Go as many places as you can. You can always make money. You can’t always make memories.”

I mean. Wow. How true is that?

So I am excited now. Every time I have a little worry or a wobble about it (because that’s what I do, with everything!), I remind myself of that quote. The timing for the break will be perfect. I will be a wreck by the time Little Man has started school so what better way than to have a holiday to look forward to during his first school half term. I still can’t believe I managed to get such a good deal for the dates I did! It was obviously meant to be.

I can’t wait. Sun, sea, sand, my favourite two boys and my favourite holiday destination. I’m not one to wish away Summer, but roll on October!
