We are only just at the start of the Summer holidays and already you might be wondering how on earth you are going to keep your kids entertained and active for the next few weeks. Well, I have something that may help you out. I’d like to introduce to you… Mini Mells!
What is Mini Mells?
Mini Mells is a new event that is taking part in Mell Square in Solihull near Birmingham, every Saturday morning aimed specifically at children between the ages of four and ten. And what’s more, it’s completely free!
On Saturday (29th July) we were invited to the launch and Little Man had been looking forward to it all week. Each week there is a different activity and on launch day it was Boxing. Mini Mells have joined forces with the guys from Virgin Active in Solihull and so you know that your kids are in safe hands, and being taught properly, whilst having lots of fun at the same time.
The sessions are forty minutes long, which is just the perfect amount of time. Not too long, not too short- as we know what kids are like!
You can see from the pictures I took that Little Man had a great time (although I’m not sure Daddy realised he was in for a workout when he got up that morning!)
The guys and girls from Virgin Active were SO good with the kids. This is something that really stood out to me. They were totally on the right wavelength and always got down to their level to explain things, which is hugely important to me. Especially as the Little Man was the youngest (and smallest) there!

James Walsh, general manager at Virgin Active Solihull, said: “We are always keen to be involved in local community events and Mini Mells is shaping-up to be the ideal collaboration. With one instructor and four supporting Virgin Active team members per session, our outside classes will offer a vibrant and energetic activity not to be missed.”
What’s On And When?
As I mentioned earlier the Mini Mells fun continues each week of the Summer holidays and the list of sessions is detailed below:
Saturday 5th August – Yoga at 10 am and 12 pm
Saturday 12th August – Multi circuit at 10 am and 12 pm
Saturday 19th August – Aerobics at 10 am and 12 pm
Saturday 26th August – Animal workout at 10 am and 12 pm
As I said, these sessions are completely FREE! But make sure you book before you go as there are limited spaces – you can book here!
Participants will also be in with a chance of winning a complimentary, one month, a family membership at Virgin Active Solihull. All you need to do is complete a form and hand it in to one of the Virgin Active team on the day.
Mell Square
As well as all of this, Mell Square has so much to offer. There are many, many shops for you to wander around including lots of little independent shops which are always great to support. I was lucky enough to receive a goody bag from the organisers and this included some lovely gifts.
