Designing A Space To Call Home

a space to call home

If you are trying to create a home that you are proud of then you could be busy working out your budget and creating endless lists. However, don’t let it get you down if you can’t get all of these done quickly. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so take your time and don’t rush. When you rush projects, things are far more likely to go wrong. Check out the list below to find out how you can design a space to call home.

Deep Clean

One of the first things you can do to create a home you are happy with is declutter and deep clean. When you declutter, this can seem pretty daunting. However, it doesn’t have to be and is surprisingly easier than you might think. To declutter your space, organise your belongings into four piles. These consist of the items you wish to keep, throw away, donate, and sell.

Now, it’s time to deep clean. You don’t want to declutter and then not carry out a thorough deep clean of your property. This can make it sparkling and feel brand new once again. When you walk through the door you will no longer have that heavy, weighted feeling on top of your shoulders. You can breathe.

Add More Space

If you have an attic or basement then you can provide your home with some much needed extra space. This could become a loft or basement conversion and is becoming incredibly popular with homeowners these days. Contact your local contractor to see what you need to do to convert these spaces. It might be that you need to get planning permission or certain licenses.

Storage Is Key

Try and give yourself as much storage as you can, this will give you places to store your belongings when you declutter. You don’t want to fill every single drawer with items you don’t need, so bear this in mind. If you have big open spaces, then how about getting some custom made shelving units? Search for local cabinet makers to come in and measure the space you have, they can then create your dream storage space that will stay with your home forever.

Sort Your Garden

Finally, once you are happy with your interior then it is time to head outside into your garden. There is no point having a nice interior if your garden doesn’t match this. Your garden could become your sanctuary, so ensure you are looking after it. You might have a list of projects that you wish to complete, if so then start ticking them off the list. You don’t need to be miserable with your garden, even if you have a smaller budget.

If you prefer low maintenance then you could always switch your real grass for astro turf. This will give you nice looking, green grass all year around without worrying around weeds and mowing it.

We do hope you found this useful and it gave you ideas on how you can design a great space to call home. You don’t just want a house, you want a home that you are proud to call your own.
