Getting your child to focus on their homework can sometimes be a difficult task as homework may not be at the top of your child’s priorities.
However, there are lots of ways that parents can help make homework more interesting for children so that it no longer feels like a boring chore. Of course, making homework “fun” is easier said than done, but fortunately Manor Lodge, a private nursery school in Hertfordshire have put together the following advice to help!
Use a sticker chart
A sticker chart is an affordable yet effective way to motivate your children to really put their all into homework time. Reward your child stickers for completing homework early, getting good feedback from the teacher or for being more positive about homework in general.
Study partners
Most children love being with their friends so why not invite a friend over for tea and study time? To ensure they do not end up distracted you could offer a reward once the homework is complete. Another idea to keep them motivated is to introduce competitions with rewards for the child who achieves the most correct answers or puts in the most effort.
Work together
One on one time with your child is precious and often valued as much by children as it is with the parents. Sit down and work through the questions with your child rather than leaving them to do it at the table alone.
Learning apps
In this day and age, smartphones and other forms of technology are everywhere; it seems we cannot escape them! So why not try to use them to our advantage? There are some fantastic learning apps out there to help you and your child at homework time
DIY Science Experiments
Cultivate your kids’ love for science and learning by trying out DIY experiments at home. Science experiments can be incredibly fun and educational ways to spend time with your children while stimulating their natural curiosity about anything and everything. They don’t even need to be expensive now you can buy distilled water and other equipment online! Doing science homework will never be the same again.
To enhance the learning experience, consider getting a low-power optical microscope for kids (and adults). A microscope is an incredibly valuable tool to help kids develop a passion for asking questions and finding answers about the world and things around them.
