Help! We’re taking our 3 year old on holiday…!

I’ve never really written a post like this before and so I’m not sure how it will turn out but it’s a little bit of a plea if anything… let’s roll with it.

At the start of June, our little family of three are packing up our summer clothes and jumping on a plane to go in search of some sunny weather. We’ve been on holiday abroad  with the littlest one twice before but the first time he was just nine months old and the second time he was not quite eighteen months old. So, given he is now almost three and a half it’s been a good couple of years since we’ve ventured out of the country and for whatever reason I feel like I’ve totally lost all sense and understanding of what I’m going to need! It seems insane.

So basically, I’m asking all you fellow travelling Mummy’s of three-year olds…

“What do you take with you?”

We will have a trip to the airport. We will have to wait at said airport. We will have a plane journey. We will have a car journey and then we will sleeeeeep. Phew. I’m exhausted thinking about it. Then baring in mind, we will have the same again on the way home.

Tell me, how on earth am I going to keep him entertained?! He gets bored at home with sixty-two thousand toys to play with. In all honesty I’m dreading the whole ‘there and back’ saga. So I’m looking for hints and tips from all of you ‘been there and done thatters’.

Obviously it’s not just the journeys, but while we are there aswell. We will be fortunate to have our own villa, so he will have a whole house to keep him entertained, but there won’t be boxes upon boxes of toys for him to pull out and play with and it makes me a little antsy thinking about it.

I always worry about these kind of things and they usually turn out to be okay, but it would be nice to be a little prepared so I can start to look forward to our well-earned holiday abroad – which incidentally is the first one ever on our own without other family.

He’s a picky eater too, so that’s playing a little heavy in the back of my mind. I don’t want him to live on ice cream and toast for two weeks. Any suggestions?

I refuse to feel like a shit Mum for asking the questions, but instead, a sensible and clever one for having the common sense to be prepared.

Please, do share with me your expertise? I’ll be forever grateful.

I look forward to reading your responses.  Thank you muchly, in advance.
