This Sunday, 4th February is World Cancer Day. So to mark the day and to assist in raising awareness I thought it the perfect time, to share with you today my next little fundraising venture. This March I will be walking 10,000 steps a day to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Why Cancer Research?
If you are an old timer to this blog then you will know why I’m doing this. If not, let me fill you in.
This time three years ago, my wonderful Mum had just started a gruelling course of chemotherapy. She had been diagnosed with follicular Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma nine years previous and three years ago, the cancer progressed which meant she needed to have treatment, and quickly. That same year my Sister and I trained and ran the Race For Life. We raised a tremendous amount of money which we will be forever grateful. We did it all for our Mum and it was that thought that got us through it all. I’m not a natural born runner, so it wasn’t the easiest of tasks for me, but with the dedication and perseverance, I did it!
It was an emotional day. When race day came around, Mum was in the middle of her treatment and it brought it all home to us why we were doing it. We had taken part in the Race For Life before, but this time it was raw and real. This time it was happening to us, so it’s understandable why emotions ran high that day.
Mum
Mum got through the chemotherapy and the following two years of maintenance treatment and the Large Diffuse B Cell Lymphoma that she had is now in remission. Which is fabulous, of course.
But you see, Mum still has Follicular Lymphoma. That will never go away. It could progress again at any given time and we could be back where we were three years ago. There is no cure. Yet.
So, now you see. This is why I have to do this. This is why we have to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research because there HAS to be a cure out there. They just haven’t found it. Yet.
10,000 Steps A Day In March
I considered doing the Race For Life again this year, but if I am completely honest, I just don’t have enough hours in my day to get the training in. But I wanted to do something. So when I stumbled across Cancer Research UK’s latest fundraiser, it took me seconds to decide to do it. I was signed up in no time and so here I am. Telling you all about it.
Now, I know that lots of people walk 10,000 steps a day. It is, after all, considered a healthy amount of exercise. Well, I don’t walk 10,000 steps a day – nowhere even near in fact. So for me, it will be a challenge. But if I have to spend my evenings walking around the house to get them all in – I will. Because this is that important to me.
Sponsorship
Obviously to make this a success I need sponsorship. This is where I will discreetly leave the link to my fundraising page and just thank anyone in advance who is kind enough to sponsor me. I have set myself a small target of £200, but I would love to smash that. At the time of writing, I already have £40 thanks to some wonderful colleagues. If I can beat the target early, I will most certainly be increasing it.

My fundraising page can be found HERE.
I will, of course, keep you updated during March and thank you for taking the time to read this post. If I only raise awareness about this disease, then that is something (but a whole load of cash would be fab, dontcha think?!).
Any social shares of this post would be appreciated. Sharing is indeed caring and I will love you always!
Thank you for reading.
