A Little Boy’s Bedroom Makeover With Love Sticker

A Little Boy's Bedroom Makeover With Love Sticker

We have been living in our current home for three years now and had yet to give our little boy the bedroom makeover he so deserved. In the time we’ve been here, he has gone from a just-walking toddler to an almost four and a half year old little boy with a real mind of his own.

Painting procrastination

The house is a newbuild house and so we had to wait a good year before a lick of paint could touch any of the walls because we had to wait for settlement cracks to appear and for snag checklists to be carried out. This was done almost two years ago and in that time we decorated one measly room. Dreadful I know.

So all this time we have been living with drab magnolia, of the shocking trade paint variety (you know the type, you wipe the wall and the paint comes off with it!) in every room. Until this weekend…

I’ve been conscious for a long time that Little Man’s room has been such a mish mash with no particular style or theme. I’ve felt for ages that he wasn’t in the ‘little boy’s room’ he so deserved to have. When we moved here, we brought his old nursery curtains with us and they were fine for a while but when we were out shopping some months ago, he fell in love with some Thomas And Friends wallpaper. This showed us we needed to replace his existing ‘theme’. We bought the wallpaper with a view that we would redecorate properly but time ticked on and we never got around to doing it.

Thank goodness for bank holidays, because as I sit here and type this, at the end of a very long weekend of DIY chaos, Little Man is sound asleep in his newly decorated Thomas And Friends bedroom.

The bedroom makeover begins

We chose to only do one wall of the wallpaper, as you will see in the pictures, it is a pretty intense design. He has a long, narrow bedroom – any more of that wallpaper and it would have made it feel so much smaller. The rest of the walls he decided he wanted blue. Again, this was ages ago and we’ve had the paint for the best part of a year.

The colour on the walls is Dulux Mineral Mist in Silk. I was worried it might make it feel cold, as blue can sometimes do. But teamed with navy blue curtains and duvet cover, it really works well. Little Man even had fun getting involved with a little bit of painting too!

We desperately needed more storage for his bedroom. We had taken to using plastic Tupperware boxes to store all of the little odds and ends – you know the kind I’m sure! I hated them! I found a great storage unit on Ebay and for a really great price. We have a similar set up downstairs in our lounge for his toys. They are great as you can throw all of the toys in there at the end of the day and the room is tidy. I love how colourful it is as well.

The picture was taken pre-bedroom makeover – I’m so pleased to see the back of those drab magnolia walls!
Wall sticker winning

Little Man’s room has a huge wall and this has always been a challenge to fill. I knew I wanted to get something for it that really stood out but wasn’t quite sure what. When I was contacted by Love Sticker and was asked if I would like to review one of their wall stickers, I knew straight away that this is what I was looking for.

Love Sticker sells any kind of wall sticker you could possibly think of, for whichever room of the house you choose. So I set my sites on their Thomas And Friends wall sticker collection and I wasn’t disappointed. Ultimately the final decision was Little Man’s, and he picked the one you see today in this post. I have to admit, he’s got great taste. It looks amazing.

As we were decorating and using silk emulsion, we decided to put the sticker up first and paint around it – admittedly this was a little fiddly, but well worth it.

Little Man was disappointed to begin with, as he couldn’t understand why it wasn’t colourful! Bless him. I told him to wait for the big reveal!

This particular sticker is one of three sizes, this is described as ‘huge’, measuring in at 175 x 100 cm, It is huge, but we needed it on the wall we had and I think you’ll agree, it’s a perfect size!

They are super easy to put up – surprising given the size of it. But once it’s up and level, I can honestly say, it’s the easiest wall sticker we have ever put up. No lumps, bumps or bubbles anywhere. The look on Little Man’s face when we peeled off the protective layer was a picture. He’s so happy with it!

His room is complete with a new set of bedside drawers and table lamp. Guy Diamond of Trolls fame has even invaded our very own Isle Of Sodor by turning up to provide some gentle light at night in the form of a colour changing night light. It’s adorable.

Bedroom makeover: Mission accomplished

I’m so happy with how this bedroom makeover has turned out. We still have a few bits and pieces to do. I want to put some shelves up and a couple more pictures for the wall, but even now, it feels like the cosy room my little boy deserves to have.

Now he just has to keep it tidy. Ha ha ha. I’m so funny I make myself laugh!

Have you done a bedroom makeover recently? Perhaps you’ve used these great stickers too, let me know in the comments.

I was gifted this wall sticker in return for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.

What a fab room he has now and I love the wall sticker it looks perfect on that wall! We live in a new build too and my walls are all white.
